Rear-Admiral Nigel Charles Forbes Guild CB. FREng, (born 9 February 1949) is a retired Royal Navy flag officer who went on to be Controller of the Navy and Chief Naval Engineer Officer.[1]

Naval career

Guild joined the Royal Navy in 1966.[1] He served on the aircraft carrier HMS Hermes (R12) from 1972 to 1975.[1] He was next assigned to Weapons Trials from 1976 to 1978;[1] He next assigned to the British Underwater Test and Evaluation Center Project from 1979 to 1982.[1] From 1982 to 1984 he served aboard the frigate HMS Euryalus (F15).[1]

His next assignment was Future Projects (Naval) from 1986 to 1987.[1] He was then assigned to the frigate HMS Beaver (F93) from 1987 to 1988;[1] In 1988 he was appointed Staff Weapons Engineer Officer to Flag Officer, Sea Training. He was Promoted to Captain in 1990, he was appointed Military Assistant to the Chief of Defence Procurement until 1992.[1] He was next appointed Chief Staff Officer (E), Surface Flotilla from 1993 to 1995.[1]

Flag Appointments
In 1996 he became Director of Combat Systems and Equipment at the Procurement Executive and in 1998 he took charge of the implementation of the "smart" procurement system.[1] Promoted to Rear-Admiral in 2000, he was made Controller of the Navy as well as an Executive Director of the Defence Procurement Agency and then, from 2004, he became Senior Responsible Owner (Carrier Strike Capability) as well as Chief Naval Engineer Officer.[1] He retired from the Navy in 2009.[1]


Educated at Bryanston School, Trinity College, Cambridge and the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth.[1]
