The Vice-Admiral in the North Sea was a senior Navy Royal appointment from 1543 to 1563. The office holder was responsible for the command of the Tudor Navy's North Sea Squadron.

History

The North Sea was an important command from the 13th to 15th centuries when an Admiral of the North, who was based at Yarmouth commanded the Northern Fleet. During the 16th century the office of Vice-Admiral in the North Sea was established to the command a North Sea Squadron. Both of these naval formations were formed on a temporary basis for specific campaigns after which they were disbanded. However by the 18th century a permanent North Sea Fleet was created. This office holder existed until 1563 when the post was abolished.
