Surgeon Lieutenant was a commissioned officer rank of the Royal Navy's Medical Branch established in 1918. It replaced the earlier rank of Surgeon (1873-1918). It is the seventh highest rank available an officer can attain to in the Royal Naval Medical Service. It ranked below Surgeon Lieutenant-Commander. It was equivalent to a Lieutenant of the navy's Executive Branch. In 1953 the rank was renamed Wardmaster Lieutenant.
