Surgeon Captain is a commissioned officer rank of the Royal Navy's Medical Branch established in 1918. It replaced the earlier rank of Deputy Surgeon-General (1911-1918). It is the fifth highest rank available an officer can attain to in the Royal Naval Medical Service. It ranks below Surgeon Commodore and above Surgeon Commander. It is equivalent to a Captain of the navy's Executive Branch.
