The Private Secretary to the Comptroller of the Navy was a senior appointment to the Navy Office created in 1794 and existed until 1832.[1]

History

In 1794 one of the Clerks in the Navy Office was appointed to attend Office the Comptroller of the Navy to manage his private office, his mail and to reply on his behalf in the fulfilment of his public duties.[2] He was to be titled as Private Secretary to the Comptroller of the Navy or Private Clerk to the Comptroller of the Navy. The office existed until 1832 when the Navy Board was abolished.[3]
