A Naval Lord was one of those lords commissioners of the Board of Admiralty originally established in 1689 to represent the Royal Navy and to advise the First Lord of the Admiralty on naval matters. In 1805 the First Lord of the Admiralty devolved some his powers and assigned specific functions to each of the Naval Lords, who were then described as Professional Lords, but now having a direct charge over naval matters. They included the Senior Naval Lord later renamed to First Naval Lord, the Second Naval Lord, the Third Naval Lord, Fourth Naval Lord and Junior Naval Lord. In 1904 those remaining Naval Lords were renamed as Sea Lord's
