The Director of Naval Warfare was a senior British Royal Navy appointment from January, 1969 to 1992. The office holder was responsible for the administration and superintendence of the Directorate of Naval Warfare a directorate of the Naval Staff (Navy Department).[1]

History

The office was created on 23 January 1969 as a result of a renaming of the earlier office of the Director of Surface Warfare (Naval). The first incumbent was Captain Lancelot R. Bell Davies and the final incmubnet was Captain John P. Clarke. The office holder was responsible for the administration and supervision of the Directorate of Naval Warfare a directorate of the Naval Staff (Navy Department).
