The Chief of Staff to the Commander-in-Chief, Eastern Fleet. was a senior British Royal Navy appointment. He was the commander-in-chiefs principal staff officer providing support and he ran the (BPF)s headquarters on a day to day basis from December, 1944 to September, 1948.[1]

History

On 1 December, 1941 when the ships of the China Station and East Indies Station were merged to form the Eastern Fleet. The first incumbent of the office was Rear-Admiral Arthur F. E. Palliser. He was the British Eastern Fleets principal staff officer providing support to the commander in chief until November 1944, when the Eastern Fleet was dispersed its naval forces were distributed to form the British Pacific Fleet and the East Indies Fleet. The final office holder was Commodore 1st Class Ralph A. B. Edwards.[2]

Role

The Chief of Staff and ran the Eastern Fleets Headquarters on a day to day basis. He was also responsible for the coordination, prioritisation and coherence of all staff effort within the Fleet HQ.
