Bombay was a naval base and command of the British Royal Navy and Royal Indian Navy,[1] it was first established during world war in 1914 and deactivated in 1919. The command was reactivated from 1936 to 1958.[2] At various times it encompassed a shore base, naval formations and other ships not attached to other formations. Command was initially vested in a Commander or Captain.
