In the February 1943 the Mediterranean command was divided into a two separate commands one for operational naval formations and another encompassing ports & naval bases. The former was under direct control of the Commander-in-Chief, Mediterranean the latter became known as the Levant Command under the control of the Commander-in-Chief, Levant.
